Infoside om Bali
Bali is an idyllic resort town located approximately 30 km east of Rethymno and 50 km west of Heraklion.
The town is nestled in a picturesque bay surrounded by lush green mountains, and the area is known for its tranquil beaches, crystal-clear waters, and charming atmosphere.
Originally a small fishing village, Bali has grown into a popular tourist destination. Despite its development, fishing boats can still be seen in the harbor, alongside tour boats offering trips to Rethymno or along the coastline to explore hidden beaches and caves.
There are several cozy, family-friendly beaches in Bali, ideal for snorkeling due to the abundance of fish in the clear waters.
The most famous beaches are Livadi Beach, which is a wide and family-friendly beach with shallow water, Varkotopos Beach, which is perfect for families with children as it is located in a protected bay, and Karavostasi Beach, which is a quiet and romantic beach with fantastic views.
Bali is also an excellent starting point for hiking in the surrounding mountainous landscape or exploring nearby villages such as Panormos and Margarites, which are renowned for their ceramics. While Bali is primarily a resort town, you can still experience a touch of Cretan culture through its small churches and local traditions.
Tavernas, bars, and shops are mainly located in the town center, while hotels and holiday apartments are situated on the steep hillsides, offering breathtaking views of the beautiful bay.
Frequent buses run to Heraklion, Rethymno, and Chania, where you can find plenty of shopping opportunities.
