Info about Heraklion
Heraklion, also known as Iraklion, is the capital and largest city of Crete, with approximately 173,000 inhabitants.
Located on the northern coast, Iraklion is an economic hub of Crete, boasting an international airport and a key port used for exporting olives/olive oil, wine, raisins, and almonds.
Iraklion features a vibrant nightlife with numerous cafés, modern bars, and nightclubs, offering a diverse range of music in an intense and lively atmosphere.
Just south of Iraklion lies the ancient city of Knossos. Knossos was built around 2000 BC and was the center of the Cretan/Minoan culture, reaching its peak from 1600–1400 BC.
Today, Knossos is a museum and a very popular tourist attraction. Another notable destination is The Castle of Iraklion (Koules), built in the 13th century by the Venetians.
