Hersonissos is a bustling holiday town during the summer, located on the northern coast of Crete. It is a popular entertainment hub that attracts young people from all over Europe. The town is particularly known for its nightlife, especially around the harbor area, where numerous bars and nightclubs are located.
The town is situated approximately 25 km from the capital, Heraklion.

In the off-season, during spring and autumn, the pace is much more relaxed, the average age of visitors is higher, and the town also becomes a great destination for families with children.

Hersonissos features beautiful beaches, most of which are small and narrow along the town’s coastline. There is also a larger beach north of the harbor offering a wide variety of water sports activities. If you're looking for a quieter beach experience, you can visit the long beaches located east of the town.

The town has a charming seafront promenade. On one side of the promenade, you’ll find cozy taverns and restaurants lined up, offering a variety of cuisines. On the other side, there are plenty of pubs, bars, and nightclubs. Additionally, the town has many shops selling local products such as olive oil, honey, ceramics, and souvenirs.

Hersonissos has excellent bus connections to Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, and other parts of Crete. It is a versatile destination with something for everyone—whether you’re seeking vibrant nightlife, relaxing days by the beach, or cultural experiences.

The town was founded in the 4th century BC and is built around a harbor in picturesque surroundings.
