Info about Malia

Malia is a popular holiday town on the northern coast of Crete, located approximately 35 km east of Heraklion.
Malia offers a mix of peaceful town life, stunning natural surroundings, and sandy beaches with crystal-clear water. In addition to the vibrant nightlife in Malia's entertainment district, these are some of the reasons why visitors return year after year.

Malia is situated in a fertile plain beneath the Selena mountain peak. In the heart of the town, traditional stone houses stand close together, many of them hosting taverns and bars, where Greek everyday life continues undisturbed. Along the main street, you'll find numerous shops, and a smaller road leads down to the sea, where Malia's entertainment district is located with bars, nightclubs, and restaurants.

The town has approximately 5,500 residents and is one of the larger towns in the area. Driving along Malia's coastal road, you can reach the famous Minoan Palace of Malia, the third-largest Minoan palace on Crete. The palace, believed to have been the center of a flourishing civilization around 1900–1450 BC, offers a fascinating glimpse into Crete's ancient history.
Malia is only 8 km from Hersonissos and 43 km from Heraklion Airport.

Malia is also famous for its long, golden sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters. The central beach, Malia Beach, offers plenty of facilities, including sunbeds, umbrellas, and water sports activities. For those seeking more tranquility, the nearby Potamos beaches are less crowded yet equally beautiful.
